What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a specialized dental procedure performed to repair and save a tooth that is severely infected, decayed, or damaged.
The term "root canal" refers to the cleaning and disinfecting of the tooth's root canals that have become infected. This treatment is a crucial way to prevent a tooth from needing to be extracted, preserving your natural smile.
The Root Canal Process
A root canal is a highly effective and comfortable procedure. We use a local anesthetic to ensure you feel no pain during the treatment. The process involves a few key steps:
Access & Cleaning: We create a small opening in the top of the tooth to access the infected pulp. We then carefully remove the infected tissue and clean and disinfect the inside of the tooth and its canals.
Filling & Sealing: Once the tooth is completely cleaned, it is filled with a rubber-like material to prevent any future infection.
Restoration: The tooth is then sealed with a filling, and in most cases, a dental crown is placed on top. A crown provides added strength and protection, allowing your tooth to function normally for years to come.
